Description

Touch, Caring and Cancer is an enjoyable, scientifically proven program  designed to help you:

  • Discover the enormous value of touch in maximizing the quality of life of cancer patients
  • Learn simple techniques of touch and massage through which you can communicate your caring, help to ease pain and distress, and help prolong and/or enrich survival.

This program, consisting of a well-produced DVD and an instruction manual was  created by one of the members of the original Cancer Support and Education Center in Menlo Park California, and reflects his decades of studying and practicing in this field for several decades.

Touch, Caring and Cancer will help enable you and other family members to become active, important parts of the treatment team. You'll learn how to join with the efforts of the patient's other care providers by providing support at home as well as in the hospital) as part of an integrative approach.

This program is especially valuable for use at and distribution by:

  • Cancer support and advocacy organizations
  • Cancer treatment centers
  • Hospital cancer programs
  • Hospice programs
  • Palliative care programs
  • Outpatient cancer services
  • Other Organizations wishing to support families with cancer

The Video is 78 minutes long and comes with a 66 page illustrated manual. Our study with 97 caregiver/patient dyads found that family caregivers were able to safely reduce symptoms in cancer patients by 29-44% when using the techniques taught in the program.

This program features two of the nation's leading experts in massage for cancer, Tracy Walton, MS, NCTMB, and Janet Kahn, PhD, NCTMB. Other contributors are William Collinge, PhD, the project director; David Rosenthal, MD, of the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center, and former president of the American Cancer Society; and Susan Bauer-Wu, PhD, RN, Distinguished Cancer Scholar at Emory University. In addition, you will experience hands on guidance by eleven caregivers and patients as they learn and use these valuable and effective techniques.

This very informative program has already won two Telly Awards for excellence in independent film making, in the categories of "Social Issues," and "Health and Wellness."
